Blend modes

Blend modes control the way different layers in a composite image interact. This can prove very useful for more advanced image-editing techniques. In ‘Normal’ mode, one layer simply overlays and obscures the one below. In the other modes, the pixel values in the two layers are compared and, depending on the blend mode chosen, one or other pixel is chosen, or a new value is generated from a calculation based on both. The most useful blend modes for photographers are Multiply, Screen and Overlay.
